Each year the focus is on the costumes and how the celebrities interpret the theme. 2019 saw a unique collection of styles, with corsets and corset-like dresses being worn by a number of those that attended...

Regina Hall in Dapper Dan

Wearing Dapper Dan for Gucci, Regina Hall wore a corset inspired dress in gold. With a corset top with bee print to the front, the skirt of Regina’s dress fell to the floor with a thigh high split. Dapper Dan is known for this 80s influenced designs with a luxury edge.

For an everyday look inspired by Regina’s Met Gala style, try the Cream Brocade Longline Overbust Corset. Team with a floaty maxi skirt in chiffon like fabrics and a pair of sandals. For an evening look, pair the same corset with a maxi skirt with thigh split and a pair of strappy heeled sandals.

Kylie Jenner in Atelier Versace

Named the ‘second skin’ dress, Kylie Jenner’s Met Gala dress left little to the imagination. Hugging every single curve, the Atelier Versace gown was made from a manikin that replicated Kylie’s exact measurements. The corset-like top featured a scalloped edge and plunging neckline, all in a pretty lilac shade.

Replicate:

For a pretty pastel corset try the Cornflower Blue Cotton Corset Top with Dramatic Sleeve. Kylie’s look is all about creating drama with volume in the right places, perfectly balancing her figure hugging look. Team with skinny jeans for an off-duty look, or style with a leather high-waist skirt for the evening.

Kim Kardashian West in Thierry Mugler

Dressed in Thierry Mugler, Kim Kardashian’s dress was designed to make her look like she was dripping wet. The idea behind it was to look like she had just emerged from the ocean in Malibu or LA. What was most talked about though was her tiny waist, which was achieved by wearing a corset with shoulder straps under her unique dress.

Replicate:

While we wouldn’t advise trying to achieve the same waist reduction as Kim, a waist taming corset could achieve similar results. Try the Long White Underbust Waist Taming Corset, which can be worn under dresses or similar and can achieve a waist reduction of up to 4 inches.

Violet Chachki in Moschino

Violet Chachki made history at this year’s Met Gala as the first drag queen to walk the Met red carpet. Violet wore a Moschino dress, with a corset-like top. She closed the Moschino’s Fall 2019 menswear show and the women’s pre-fall show last year. At the pre-fall show, the dress she wore to the Met Gala was worn by a model walking right in front of her.

Replicate:

To achieve a similar style, a simple black corset is a must. Try the Instant Shape Classic Overbust Corset in Jet Black, and team with a black high waist pencil skirt for the evening, or simple jeans for the day.

Ezra Miller in Burberry

Ezra Miller chose an androgynous look for the Met Gala. Dressed in Burberry, her look provided a unique update on the classic pinstripe suit. Ezra wore a pinstripe blazer with white shirt, styled with a embellished underbust corset over the top.

Replicate:

To achieve the same level of detail, try the Black Mesh Fronted Underbust Corset. Wear with a white shirt underneath to create a contrast and allow the detail to become centre stage.

Corsets greatly influenced the 2019 Met Gala fashion, with celebrities using them in a variety of creative ways to achieve unique and interesting looks. Which look was your favorite? Comment and let us know...
